These children share their music with a mission worker in Africa. They don't use any instruments but they all clap along with each other. This seems like it could be comperable to our nursery rhymes in that it is something all the children know and can sing often.

This yodeling is unlike any I have heard before. These women are making music in one big group with their children. They all have incorporated parts of nature into their clothing for this occasion. This is neat!

This video shows Hopi and Pueblo Native Americans doing an eagle dance. Their movements, formation, costumes, and posture all reflect that of an eagle. Their arms stay up almost the entire time, like an eagle flying and looking for a landing perch.

The yodeling was really really awesome. The texture is so complex with what sounded like a round being sung and then of course the different rhythms of the drums. I wonder how yodeling got incorporated into their music. It sounds great. Her voice is very powerful and clear.
ReplyDeleteI watched the yodeling video. I was struck with how well all of the voices blended together. It sounded random at first, but it does seem well orchestrated. I was impressed with the woman who yodeled and played a rhythm on what looks to be a pot.
ReplyDeleteHey Gwen. I was really excited about the Hopi Indians. Back in 5th grade, I had to do a presentation on the Pueblo Indians. I created my own tipi and some of the tools that they used. I remember that they were highly reverent of the eagle.
ReplyDeleteI love the Baka women! Their timbre is really different from what I am used to, but I really like how they put their voices together into this wall of sound. And those leaf hats are pretty stylish.
ReplyDeleteI like the second video too! hahaha
ReplyDeleteIt really is something very different.
It nothing is really together but it is together..
The balance is really good and it's amazing
how they move everything together when the
voices doesn't really appear to be together...!!
WOW! The Baka women were something different. The timber of their voice were just so amazing! They way the voices were put together, it was like a huge wave of sound coming out you. I was just great!
ReplyDeleteAh! I see why you were smiling during the BaAka part of today's class! Pretty cool, huh?
